Suggestions

What are Suggestions?

Our Domain Name Generator suggests domain names that are available to be registered. Just enter a keyword or domain name and this tool will give available options for .com, .net, .tv and .cc domains based on your input.

How are Suggestions derived?

The Suggestion feature employs multiple methods for suggesting names. It provides topical items (trends in the news), synonyms, popular prefixes/suffixes, geographical names and related terms.

Available Domain Names with Traffic

What is the traffic information in this application?

The traffic information included is made up of the requests across the Domain Name System (DNS) for a Non existent Domain name(NXD). NXDs are represented by names that are either un-registered or don’t have web servers enabled, so any name that is requested but doesn’t resolve to an active domain. This traffic includes both human generated requests (e.g. type in traffic, clicking on a bookmark to a site that no longer exists, etc.) as well as machine generated requests (e.g. bots and search crawlers). NXD Traffic does not necessarily equate to web traffic or website visits.

What does the Score mean?

Often unregistered domain names receive DNS traffic. Verisign computes a Score for each domain name using a 1-10 scale (10 being best), to measure the quantity and attractiveness of DNS traffic for a given domain. Factors such as the number of requests and the consistency of the requests for a domain name are used to determine the Score. This data is intended to provide a basis of comparison for NXD names; to help you understand directionally which domains may receive more human generated requests than others. The intent is not to use the resulting data as a means to quantify web traffic or estimate potential website visits.

We continually evolve our processes to optimize for "real" traffic from humans to better predict which un-registered domain names will have the most valuable traffic when registered. To do this, we take into account not just the sheer volume of total NXD traffic, but also things that have proven statistically to be predictors of a human generated traffic such as:

How should I interpret DNS traffic data?

The following are some common factors to consider when evaluating NXD Domains:

Note: There are certainly other ways to interpret this data and other factors that can be considered in finding valuable domain names.

Available Featured Domains with Traffic

What are Featured domains in this application?

Featured Domain names are pre-selected set of domain names containing only dictionary words and one number or group of numbers with select traffic characteristics. This application allows you to search and/or download these domains as csv file. These domains are refreshed on daily basis.

What is the format of downloaded file, how can I uncompress it?

File available for download is CSV file compressed as gzip with extension .gz, it can be uncompressed using gzip utility available on Unix and Linux systems or using many popular file archiving utilities like 7-zip. More information about gzip can be found here

What is the format of data in downloaded featured domains file?

CSV file contains various fields that can help you understand NXD traffic patterns for a particular domain name. It contains following fields: domain_name, seven_day_score, thirty_day_score, sixty_day_score, seven_day_total_req, seven_day_business_hour_req, seven_day_unique_req

Recently Expired Domain Names

What are Recently Expired domain names?

These are domain names that have expired and will soon be dropped from the registry of active domain names so will soon become available for registration. After domain names expire they pass through the Auto-Renew Grace Period and Redemption Grace Period stages of the domain name lifecycle, during which they can only be re-registered by the previous registrant. If they are not re-registered during these stages they are classified as Pending Delete and become available to be registered by anyone five days later.

Which TLDs are included in Recently Expired domain names?

At this time, only .com and .net TLDs are included.

Are the dates used in this application my local date?

The dates referenced in this application are relative to the United States Eastern Standard Time (GMT -5).

What is the other data that is listed for each domain name?

You can review things such as traffic statistics, information about the previous website such as what it was used for, how long it had been registered and whether various common website features where present. This is a great tool for understanding the type of traffic that the domain name may still be receiving and prioritizing domain name investments. See the Glossary below for full details.

Domain Name Lists

What domain names are included in the downloadable lists?

We have built a number of lists based on criteria that have become very desirable. These criteria include; very short length, inclusion of only numbers, exclusion of the numbers 0 and 4, inclusion of repeating numbers, inclusion of multiples of the same number, inclusion of only consonants and exclusion of the letter V. These lists will be updated daily based on availability.

What is the format of downloaded file, how can I un-compress it?

A file available for download is CSV file compressed as gzip with extension .gz, it can be uncompressed using gzip utility available on Unix and Linux systems or using many popular file archiving utilities like 7-zip. More information about gzip can be found here

Registrars

What is a Registrar?

A domain name registrar is a company assists consumers and business owners by verifying that a requested domain name is available, and then by registering it with Verisign or another registry company. After the domain name is registered, you can begin using it for a web site, email or other Internet services. Some registrars also provide additional products like website and email hosting, online marketing services and as well as other and services.

Why should I add a registrar in this application?

Saving one or more registrars to your account will allow you to register the domain name(s) that you have discovered quicker and easier. After saving a registrar, when you select the Shopping Cart option you will be redirected to that registrar's page to order your desired domain name(s). If you have saved more than one registrar, you can choose one to be a default that is automatically selected or choose which one to use when you select the Shopping Cart option. You can save your registrar(s) by logging in and selecting My Registrars in your account options.

Glossary

Term Long Description
Ads Detected Advertisements were found on the website. Helpful when understanding the monetization strategy of the previous website owner. Possible values are "Y" and "N".
Brand Safety A measure of how often profanity was found during the previous 3 months. Profanity is determined as any of roughly 150 profane terms that are considered as being highly obscene or vulgar. Possible values are "High" = no profanity during the last 3 months, "Medium" = profanity during one of the last 3 months, "Low "= profanity during more than one of the last 3 months. Primarily useful as a filtering mechanism.
Available On The date when the domain name is released by the registry and will be able to be registered through any .com or .net registrar. The domain names generally become available one at a time, starting at around 2pm ET on this date. The actual exact time a name becomes available may vary.
DNS Traffic Total amount of data transfers or calls across the Domain Name System. This includes both human to machine calls as well as machine to machine calls. DNS Traffic does not necessarily equate to web traffic.
DNS Traffic Reach The number of servers generating DNS Traffic to the domain during the prior 24 hour period. While DNS Traffic is different than web traffic, the DNS Traffic Reach directionally indicates the demand for the domain.
Domain Name Length The number of characters in the domain name. Possible values are 1-63.
Domain Rank A ranking of .com and .net domains, based on the monthly cumulative traffic score for the domain. Rankings for .com and .net domains are independent of each other. For example a Domain Rank value of 1 for a .com domain indicates that the domain received the highest monthly cumulative Traffic Score relative to other .com domains.
Expired On The date when the domain name expired. The domain name will go through redemption period and will become available 80 days after this date.
Inbound Links The number of links from other .com and .net domains found linking to this domain. This can be an indicator of potential traffic to this domain.
DNS Traffic Score A quality score based on the several characteristics of DNS Query traffic including the amount and consistency of requests. Scores range from 0 to 10, where 0 indicates no data found, and 1-10 indicates the quality of DNS traffic to the domain with 10 being the highest. Scores are relative and do not provide specific amounts of DNS traffic. This score can be used to compare the DNS traffic quality for multiple domains. This score is provided for the 7, 30, and 60 day periods prior to its calculation.
Login Detected Indicates whether or not a website has login capabilities. This can indicate a user base that may periodically return to the site. Possible values are "Y" and "N".
Outbound Links The number of links to other domains in the .com and .net zones found originating from this domain.
Personal Information Indicates whether the website collected personal information from users. Possible values are "Y" and "N".
Popularity Score An adjusted version of the Traffic Score taking into account the quality of inbound links as well as the DNS queries for the domain, before the domain enters the Redemption Grace Period. The score is a normalized score from 0-1000 where 1000 is the most popular. The Filtered Traffic Score (Traffic Score weighted to account for different types of DNS queries) and link quality equally influence the Popularity Score. High traffic volumes or loads from inbound links alone will not result in a high rank but rather a combination of both is required to yield a strong overall popularity score.
Redirect Destination If the website is redirected as indicated by a Website Type of Redirect or Masked Redirect, the redirect destination is captured and provided here. For example, example.com redirects to example.go.com. In this case, the value of this field would be "example.go.com"
Registered Since Identifies the date when the name was last registered. If a domain has been registered multiple times this date will refer only to the most recent registration. For example, if the domain was created for the first time 1/1/2000, dropped in 2001 then registered again 9/30/2010 and dropped in 2011, the Registered Since date would be 9/30/2010. This can be used to determine the age of the most recent domain registration.
Shopping Cart Indicates whether the website had a shopping cart enabled. Possible values are "Y" and "N".
Third Party Checkout Indicates whether the website utilized any third party checkout application separate from the website's shopping cart. Possible values are "Y" and "N".
Monthly US Traffic Percentage of DNS traffic to the domain generated by US based nameservers over the previous 30 day period.
Website Keywords The keywords are derived from anchor tags and image tags found on each website, and can be used to search for websites about specific topics. There are 4 sources that are considered for keywords: Title Bar, Meta Description, Meta Keywords and General Content area. All extracted keywords are delimited by commas.
Website Type An indication of how the website hosted on this domain had been used. These are useful as filters to select the content that is most desired. All websites are classified in one and only one of the following categories:
  • Blog - A domain that is used primarily for traditional blogging.
  • Parked - A domain that is simply parked with generic or other Under Construction content.
  • Real Estate - A domain that is used to advertise a property or properties that are for sale.
  • Redirect - A domain immediately transferring the end user to a different location.
  • Masked Redirect - A domain that consists exclusively of a frame pulling all of its content from a different website.
  • E-Commerce - A domain that is used to sell goods including completing transactions online.
  • Online Business - A domain that is used as a billboard or advertisement for a single company, meant to solicit new customers and provide basic information for interested parties.
  • Other - A domain that is not classified as any of these predefined types.
